Pages 132-148 | Published online: 02 Feb 2010

Abstract

The goal of this discussion is to examine some of the variables that impact black men who have sex with men (MSM) embracing the institution of same-sex marriage. At the cornerstone of this discussion is the notion that one must embark upon a contextual analysis if one hopes to understand human behavior and attitudes. This contextual analysis explores socio-cultural influences, dispositional characteristics, constitutional factors, and systemic influences. A discussion of same-sex marriage and the need for social advocacy within the context of this social justice movement is explored.
