Abstract

Prisons provide a unique setting for community health educators to develop programs that address the health needs of prison inmates. This article highlights the lessons learned from development of a health promotion program for women prison inmates in an adult correctional facility. While the goal of this health promotion program was to provide instruction and experiences that foster responsible health choices, several challenges to providing health education in this setting were faced. Attention to these lessons and challenges in similar settings can help streamline programming.
