Abstract
This paper considers the construct and predictive validity of available instruments for coding relational control. The opening section of the paper offers an analysis which compares each instrument to formative ideas in interactional theory. Data then are presented concerning the construct and predictive validity of the instruments. The final portion of the paper discusses the relative merits of each instrument.
