Information adequacy and communication relationships: An empirical examination of 18 organizations

Wieck's model of organizing suggests that satisfaction with organizational life is a function of equivocality reduction rather than participation. This investigation tested the hypothesis that perceived information adequacy is an indicator of equivocality. A relationship was found between perceived information adequacy and several indices of relational satisfaction, but not with various indicators of participation. Results suggest that the equivocality model provides a better explanation of satisfaction than the participation model.
