The primary hypothesis of this study predicted a three‐way interaction between anticipated length of relationship, sex of discloser, and sex of relational partner in influencing disclosure intimacy level. Eighty‐six participants engaged in an acquaintance exercise where anticipated length of relationship varied via experimental treatment. Results supported the predicted interaction effect and are discussed in terms of social exchange theory and sex role prescriptions.
