Demographic Variables and Utilization of Public Library among Entrepreneurs in Nigeria

Abstract

The entrepreneurs are considered as the bedrock of national socio-economic growth and development. However, many of these entrepreneurs quite while a number of them die within few years after their operations. The success or failure of any entrepreneur depends to a large extent on availability and accessibility of timely and accurate information that will guild them in decision –making. This paper investigates demographic variables and utilization of public library among entrepreneurs in Nigeria. The study is survey design anchor on positivism paradigm. The target population for this study comprised 200 registered entrepreneurs in Ogun State. Questionnaire was the major instrument for data collection. The study revealed that more males engaged in small-scale business enterprises than females. Majority of them were within the productive age and were educated. The study also established that the main reason for using public libraries by entrepreneurs was basically to seek for business information and they wished to see improvement in terms of effective power supply in the public libraries. The following recommendations were made there is need for governments at all levels to make funds available to entrepreneurs either through banks or other financial institutions and there is need for inclusion of entrepreneurship studies in schools’ curriculum. The study provides fresh data that would assist policy makers in taking decisions relating to public libraries and development of entrepreneurship development particularly in the context of Nigeria.
