, &
Pages 257-266 | Published online: 28 Jul 2006

Abstract

Teachers of young children must both nurture children and promote their cognitive development, goals that are facilitated when teachers and parents work as partners. The authors review research on communication barriers that inhibit effective partnerships and present the findings of a survey of teachers’ perceptions of parent involvement. The implications of the findings for developing successful teacher‐parent partnerships are discussed.
