Abstract

Bioassay-guided fractionation of an extract of Bridelia ferruginea provided a new glycoside, 5′-demethoxy-β-peltatin-5-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), and three known compounds, β-peltatin (2), β-peltatin-5-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (3), and desoxypodophyllotoxin (4). The structure of 1 was elucidated by detailed NMR analyses and by comparison of its spectral data with related compounds. Compounds 1 and 3 exhibited cytotoxic and cytostatic activity in the NCI's 60 cell antitumor screen.
