Coping with the New Normal Imposed by the COVID-19 Pandemic: Lessons for Technology Management and Governance

ABSTRACT

The reliance of many facets of society on technology and online platforms has grown exponentially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This drastic change has impacted all industries and service sectors alike including the health-care sector, education, retail, travel, food, and government agencies. The observations made in the last six months provide us with valuable insights for technology management and information systems. In this piece, we discuss some of these key insights.

Tejaswini Herath

Tejaswini C. Herath is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at Brock University, Canada. She received her Ph.D. from the State University of New York, Buffalo. She holds an NSA Certificate in Information Assurance from SUNY Buffalo and holds MMIS, MSCE degrees from Auburn University, USA and a BE from Pune University, India. Her research interests are information security and privacy. Her research appears in Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, Information Systems Management, and The Data Base for Advances in Information Systems, among others.

Hemantha S. B. Herath

Hemantha S. B. Herath is a Professor of Accounting at Brock University, Canada. His research interests include real option analysis, economics of information security, and managerial accounting. He has published articles in a variety of journals including Abacus, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Journal of Business Ethics and The Engineering Economist. He is a two-time recipient (2008, 2001) of the Eugene L. Grant Best Paper Award from the American Society of Engineering Education. He serves as an area editor of The Engineering Economist and Journal of Financial Economic Policy.
