Work-to-Home Cybersecurity Spillover: Construct Development and Validation

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced employees to work from home using enterprise systems outside traditional organizational boundaries. Thus, organizations cannot enforce security policies for safe IT use behaviors but depend on continuance intentions of work policies at home. We study the transfer of IT security behaviors from work to home by developing the construct of Work-to-Home Cybersecurity Spillover and empirically testing and validating it. Our findings provide practical implications for researchers and practitioners in cybersecurity.

Lakshmi Goel

Lakshmi Goel has a Ph.D. in Decision and Information Sciences and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Houston. Dr. Goel currently holds an Endowed Chair in Strategic Management at the Coggin College of Business. Her areas of research include virtual worlds, information systems strategy, cybersecurity, and knowledge management. Her research is published in several international conferences and journals including MIS Quarterly, the Journal of the Association of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, and Decision Support Systems.

Justin Zuopeng Zhang

Justin Zuopeng Zhang is a faculty member in the Coggin College of Business at University of North Florida. He received his Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Science and Information Systems from Pennsylvania State University, University Park. His research interests include economics of information systems, knowledge management, electronic business, business process management, information security, and social networking. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Global Information Management, an ABET program evaluator, and an IEEE senior member.

Steven Williamson

Steven Williamson has a Doctorate in Management from the University of Memphis and a Master of Science in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Williamson is a Professor of Strategic Management at the University of North Florida’s Coggin College of Business where he also is the Director of the Paper and Plastics Education and Research (Paper) Institute and the MBA Program Director. His areas of research include cybersecurity, strategy development and implementation, and sales and operations planning. His research is published in several journals including Enterprise Information Systems, and the International Journal of Quality and Service Sciences.
