Optimizing the Use of Government Data

Abstract

Geographic information systems are recognized as powerful tools for handling spatial information and producing useful maps. GISs can collect, store, manage, query, and map geographic data. This article describes how one award-winning series of applications was constructed for a government agency and what the developers learned from the experience.
