ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE

The Elements of Implementation

Pages 45-53 | Published online: 24 Oct 2007

Abstract

By 1995, it is estimated that one-half of all interorganization business documents will be transmitted between corporations by way of electronic data interchange (EDI). Transmitting business data through communications networks is commonplace in many industries. In many cases, organizations are actively evaluating EDI because of its growing use in their particular industries. However, a variety of other strategic and operational reasons are even more fundamental to the decision to adopt EDI.
