Abstract

As major vendors ready their distributed computing strategies and products, commercial users are attempting to define their own architectural directions. And, depending on a business's current and future systems and the degree of integration pursued, the road to cooperative, distributed systems may prove lengthy and costly. This column examines the distributed systems strategies of some vendors and the requirements of the business market they are fighting for.
