FRAMEWORK FOR NETWORK PLANNING

A Corporatewide Model

Abstract

In large organizations, corporatewide data networks function as utilities, providing sophisticated communications services to terminal controllers, workstations, minicomputers, and mainframes. A corporate network is In some ways a more extensive version of popular departmental networks; however, a corporate network adds value that cannot be achieved by its small-scale departmental counterparts. This article describes the planning, design, and deployment of a strategic corporate network that can support distributed applications.
