INTEGRATING COMMERCIAL SOFTWARE PACKAGES

Follow the Systems Life Cycle

Pages 33-40 | Published online: 05 Feb 2007

Abstract

When organizations acquire commercially produced software, the lessons learned about systems planning, analysis and design, implementation, and maintenance are often forgotten. Software packages allow varying amounts of modification. Regardless of the amount of change permitted, organizations using software from outside sources should subject these acquisitions to the same types of control applied to software developed in-house. This article makes recommendations regarding commercial software pertinent to each phase of the systems development life cycle.
