Is Electronic Commerce Ready for the Internet?

A Case Study of a Financial Services Provider

Abstract

Although electronic commerce cannot yet support secure financial transactions, some financial institutions have already begun to conduct business online. This article reviews the experiences of one financial services provider in setting objectives for and establishing an Internet presence. Integral to the process is a checklist of strategic, tactical, and practical management issues that must be resolved before an Internet connection is made.
