Abstract
Few companies can afford the continuously escalating costs and implementation delays associated with first-generation client/server strategies. Second-generation or enterprise strategies characterized by consolidation of key IS resources, efficient IS infrastructures, and focused application deployment hold promise for more rapid and cost-effective delivery of organizationwide benefits.
