TELECOMMUTING: A TRANSPORTATION PLANNER'S VIEW

Pages 73-75 | Published online: 08 Feb 2007

Abstract

Although telecommuting may have some role in reducing traffic congestion and air pollution, a transportation planner advises promoters of telecommuting to look beyond broad social benefits and focus instead on telecommuting's role as a contributor to a full and financially sound system of distributed work. This way of thinking requires a market-based approach that focuses on the concerns of customers (i.e., employers), particularly their business needs.
