Abstract

This paper describes a new kind of integrated ferroelectric devices that is used for data conversion. This data conversion technique utilizes polarization as a novel D/A conversion medium. Along with the architecture proposed for polarization-switching digital-to-analog converter (PDAC), its circuit implementation is presented. A 9-bit bipolar PDAC based on off-chip ferroelectric capacitors was prototyped and tested. At a conversion rate of 20 kHz, the INL and DNL of the prototype were −0.85 LSB and 1.05 LSB, respectively.
