ABSTRACT

A magnetoelectric (ME) laminate composite consisting of a ferroelectric Pb(Fe0.52Nb0.48)O3-PbTiO3 (PFNT) single crystal and two magnetostrictive Tb1-xDyxFe2-y (Terfenol-D) layers has been developed and its ME voltage coefficients (α E ) depending on different magnetic bias fields and various frequencies have been studied. It shows a strong magnetoelectric effect with the largest α E of 2.43 V/cm Oe. Furthermore, both non-zero value of α E in absent of the magnetic bias field and different values of α E when reversing of the direction of the magnetic bias field were also observed. The phenomena mentioned above have never been reported before and might due to the ferroelastic effect of the PFNT single crystal, which deserves further study.
