Synthesis and Characterization of Isovalent Substituted BaTiO3 Ceramics by Modified Chemical Route

Abstract

Iso-valent ion substituted barium titanate (Ba0.96Sr0.04TiO3 & Ba0.96Mg0.04TiO3) ferroelectric samples were synthesized in single perovskite phase by modified chemical route. For single perovskite phase and dense grain morphology formation, 900°C and 1300°C temperatures were optimized as calcination and sintering temperatures, respectively. Room temperature (RT) dielectric constant (ϵr) and dielectric loss (tanδ) of Ba0.96Mg0.04TiO3 & Ba0.96Sr0.04TiO3 systems at 1 kHz frequency were found to be ∼ 576 & 0.019 and 2300 & 0.13, respectively. Curie temperature, Tc, of Ba0.96Sr0.04TiO3 and Ba0.96Mg0.04TiO3 samples were found to be around ∼105 and 75°C, respectively.
