Abstract

A type of one-dimensional photonic crystals(PCs) with a mirror symmetry is designed. The optical transmission of this kind photonic crystals is studied by transfer-matrix method. Contrast and simulate the optical transmission spectra of positive-positive index photonic crystal and positive-negative index photonic crystal under different uniaxial stress. We get the changes of the transmission peak in the center of the forbidden gap. Finally, a meso-piezoptic coefficient was introduced to quantify meso-piezoptic effects. The investigation results show that band gap of this photonic crystals with a mirror symmetry is unchanged under uniaxial stress. The results show that transmission peak in the forbidden gap center of this PCs is very sensitive to a small stress. Meso-piezoptic effect of positive-negative index photonic crystal is weaker than the meso-piezoptic effects of positive-positive index photonic crystal.
