Property Research on Diamond Tool Machining Sapphire Dome

Abstract

Brazing diamond tools were used to machining monocrystal sapphire dome. The effects of processing parameters on the cutting force, surface quality were researched. The results showed that the speed of bowl-type tool greatly affects the mechanical properties. The autorotation speed of workpiece effect less. The surface roughness of sapphire dome average at about 1.7 µm after machining. A large number of gully left on the sapphire dome surface. The processing chips were in the debris shapes.
