Abstract
Harvesting ambient vibration energy using piezoelectric elements is a promising energy harvesting technology. Energy extraction efficiency is the research focus. This paper presents a novel self-powered hybrid rectifier for piezoelectric energy harvesting. The purpose of this hybrid rectifier is to make the harvested power more efficient and ensure that the rectifier is self-powered. An optimized self-powered peak detection circuit consisting of discrete components reduces circuit losses. The theory and simulation of the hybrid rectifier are presented with a good agreement. The circuit is designed to help realize self-powered wireless sensor networks.
