Iron-sulfur clusters containing a variety of ligands, [Fe4S4(SR)4]2- (R = 4-C6H4CHO, 4-C5H4N, 2-(4-NO2)C5H4N) were prepared as potential constituents for functional assembly. Preparation and structure of a mixed-cluster compound (Me4N)4[Fe(SPh)4] [Fe4S4(SPh)4], involving both rubredoxin and [4Fe-4S] ferredoxin model clusters, are also discussed.
