Laterally Aromatic Branched Two-Ring Mesogens Connected to Polysiloxane Backbone

Abstract

Surprisingly, two-ring mesogens with a phenyl ring containing lateral segment can show liquid-crystalline behaviour. Linking to a polysiloxane backbone can be realized via three different para positions of the mesogens. Polymorphism and mesophase stabilization depend strongly on the position and type of substituents as well as on the length and position of the spacer.
