EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENTS OF THE EDDY CURRENT SIGNAL DUE TO A FLAWED, CONDUCTING HALF SPACE

Abstract

An experimental investigation of the change in impedance of a practical multi-turn eddy current coil near a conducting half space has been undertaken. The real and imaginary parts of the impedance were measured as a function of both coil lift-off distance and conductivity. In addition the effect of a small flaw beneath the surface of the plane were also investigated as a function of flaw depth and flaw location. The resulting changes in impedance were compared and found to correlate well with previously derived theoretical results.
