ABSTRACT
A side-by-side probe is typically used in eddy-current testing as it offers advantages such as good sensitivity and high signal-to-noise ratio. However, most studies regarding side-by-side probes are primarily based on circular coils. In this study, an analytical model of a rectangular side-by-side probe is developed, in which transmitter and receiver coils are rectangular and assembled side-by-side above a conductive plate. An experimental setup is built to verify the analytical calculations. Experimental results show that the values calculated using this model agree well with measured values. The analytical model can be used to evaluate probe performance through the geometrical dimensions of the coils, coil distance, and lift-off, and provides an effective tool to aid the design of a rectangular side-by-side probe.
