TRANSIENT EDDY CURRENTS IN LAYERED MEDIA AS A MODEL OF CORROSION DETECTION

Pages 315-322 | Received 17 Apr 1991, Published online: 10 May 2007

Abstract

Transient eddy-current signals have been calculated for a parallel plate system. In the problem considered. current is induced in the plates by a predefined step current in a coil and the variation of the induced emf across the coil is predicted. The calculations are used to simulate eddy current measurement of corrosion between conducting plates. The results indicate that it is possible to distinguish plate separation from material loss by examining the shape of the transients.
