Abstract
The professional behaviors of educators build a framework so youth can grow academically and emotionally; however, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or Transgender (GLBT) youth often lack systematic strategies that address their needs.1 The Legacy Project's Education Initiative (LPEI) was established by gay community leaders and historians, as an extension of The Legacy Walk (TLW), an outdoor memorial streetscape in Chicago, Illinois that was dedicated on October 11, 2012. The Legacy Project (TLP) and TLW reintegrate GLBT contributions into our society's shared history by providing resources for educators and museums. TLP is a private cultural endeavor committed to raising the awareness of GLBT historical contributions in the public realm. This work has evolved out of an activist community striving to secure social justice and acceptance for GLBT people. This case study will examine the development of TLP and its possible educational application for museums.
