Abstract
An amphiphilic acrylamide monomer containing a vitamin E moiety as the hydrophobic group and a phosphatidylcholine analogue as the hydrophilic group was newly synthesized in high yield. The radical polymerization was carried out in the presence of α, α′ -azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The obtained monomer and homopolymer were characterized by 1H NMR, IR, and melting points. A stacked bilayer structure was proposed for homopolymer from x-ray diffraction analysis. Furthermore, monolayers of the homopolymer were prepared on the surface of water and were investigated at different temperatures.
