Higher Education Reform and Professionalism

New Incentives and Risks

Abstract

Based on two series of interviews, this article provides the features of the main changes in activity by instructors in higher education brought about by the introduction of external evaluation mechanisms into the Russian system of higher vocational education. We also consider changes in the professional life of instructors. We show that the existing standards of academic activity persist at the micro level and in relationships within the professional community, but there are serious risks to professionalism in higher education.
