Eating disorders: The journal of treatment and prevention new editors’ vision statement

Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention (EDJTP), one of the leading journals in the field of eating disorders, announces the new Co-Editors-in-Chief: Leslie Karwoski Anderson, PhD, and Catherine Cook-Cottone, PhD. The Co-Editors would like to thank Leigh Cohn, the founding editor and editor-in-chief for the past 25 years for his dedication to EDJTP and for making it the journal the valuable and trusted resource that it is today.

Dr. Anderson is an Associate Clinical Professor in the UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry and Training Director at the UC San Diego Eating Disorders Center for Treatment and Research. She is also a trainer with Behavioral Tech, and has published two books and numerous articles on evidence-based treatment of eating disorders. Dr Cook-Cottone is a full professor in the Department of Counseling, School, and Educational Psychology at State University of New York, at Buffalo with over 15 years of prevention and intervention research, as well as a private practice specializing in eating disorders. The author of six books, she has extensive experience in working with authors, editors, and publishers.

The shared vision for EDJTP is to continue to strengthen the journal’s role as a respected source of scientifically-based guidance for those working in the field of eating disorder prevention and treatment. As long-time practitioners and researchers in the field of eating disorders, the Editors-in-Chief know that other related journals are sometimes more focused on research in the sheer pursuit of knowledge rather than publishing articles to directly inform prevention and treatment interventions. We see EDJTP as a critical bridge between sound research and practice in the field of eating disorders. The Editors-in-Chief are passionately committed to shepherding the journal forward with this distinctive goal, and to do this, they will:

  • prioritize studies and empirical research that have practical clinical or prevention applications,

  • encourage collaboration with authors, reviewers, and eating disorders organizations,

  • increase the journal’s visibility through social media,

  • continue to build an editorial board of current authorities on eating disorders who are committed to our specific editorial mission,

  • follow their strategic plan for increasing EDJTP’s impact.

The Editors-in-Chief are actively recruiting guest editors for special issues, soliciting review papers from prominent authors, and have commenced an awards program for Eating Disorders Outstanding Article of the Year, Eating Disorders Prevention Article of the Year, and honorable mention finalists in each category (first awarded in 2017). Additionally, the Editors-in-Chief have appointed a Social Media Editor who will help to use social media to disseminate EDJTP’s articles widely.

The team at EDJTP looks forward to the upcoming years of lifting EDJTP’s prominence in the field and supporting prevention and treatment interventions through the publications of relevant and applied research studies, review articles, and special issues.
