Incorporating climate considerations into the national forest basic plan in Japan

Pages 113-122 | Published online: 09 Jan 2009

Abstract

A computer simulation model developed for the Japanese Forest Resource Basic Plan which is the basis of the Japanese forest policies is used to assess mitigation policies under the three scenarios. These are a) stabilizing timber supply at the present level (case 1); b) adopting long rotation (case 2); and c) aggressively promoting domestic supply (case 3). These results indicate that each of the three scenarios contribute to storage carbon into the forest sector as shown in case 1, 2, and 3.
