Compensating for opportunity costs in forest‐based global climate change mitigation

Summary

Compensation to developing countries for mitigating global climate change by conserving forest or improving forest management should include the opportunity cost of foregone national development and not just the cost of carbon stored.Estimation of the opportunity cost is discussed and alternative compensation schemes compared.
