The cost of carbon sequestration in forests: A positive analysis

Pages 269-277 | Published online: 09 Jan 2009

Abstract

Estimates of the cost of large‐scale carbon sequestration programs are based on nonnative criteria. In this paper, carbon cost schedules are derived using land use elasticities from an econometric analysis of forest and agricultural land use. The results indicate that normative analyses underestimate the true costs of carbon sequestration programs.
