A simple approach to Jacobi polynomials

Abstract

Starting from the Rodrigues formula polynomials are introduced by carrying out the innermost differentiations. The key is a generating function for them that is simpler than that of Jacobi polynomials leading to short and transparent derivations of recursion relations and addition theorems for Jacobi polynomials.
