Abstract
During the course of the next decade, community colleges, both in Canada and in the United States, will increase their involvement in a variety of international activities. The degree to which these efforts produce tangible benefits, and the scope of those benefits, will be determined by the kinds and magnitude of the international activities in which the colleges engage. Furthermore, a strategic approach that requires colleges to select from among different international activities, that primes the resources of the community college to develop its international capacity, and that builds the alliances necessary to compete for medium‐ to large‐scale international project work will be the hallmark of internationally successful community colleges.
