Abstract
In order to find a test of cardiovascular fitness for girls and women which can be quickly and easily administered, the Harvard Step Test for boys and men was modified in various ways and then subjected to analysis for reliability and validity. It was found that a three-minute test, using an 18-inch bench and a stepping rate of 24 steps per minute, is both reliable and valid and that it clearly differentiates among females who are in a highly trained state, those who are moderately active, and those who are sedentary.
