Pages 74-80 | Published online: 17 Mar 2013

Abstract

The subjects (30 men and 30 women) were tested twice, in testing periods separated by one week, onr ability to perceive weights from 3.25 to 13.75 lb. using memory and simultaneous equality techniques. Fractionation technique for the same subjects employed maximal and 1/2 maximal pull. Significant sex differences were found in variable error scores but not constant error scores for the memory and simultaneous equality techniques. The r's between the ratio of 1/2 pull/maximal pull and memory scores at 3.25 and 13.75 lb. were .668 and .669 for the men and .495 and .381 for the women (all significant) indicating a tendency to perceive weights in the same direction with both memory and fractionation techniques.
