Psychology, Crime and Law is embracing open science by implementing the Centre for Open Science badges. The badges encourage authors to share their data, make their materials open and/or preregister but none of these things are mandatory under the badge system. We will also be implementing a more advanced ‘share upon reasonable request’ data policy. Authors are now required to provide a data availability statement, detailing where data associated with a paper can be found and how it can be accessed. To the extent that data cannot be made available, authors will be required to state the reason in the data availability statement. The data availability statement should include information on how the data can be requested from the authors. Templates are also available to support authors at the journal website (https://www.tandfonline.com/loi/gpcl20).

One final open science initiative we will be implementing is the acceptance of Registered Reports as an article type. To quote the Centre for Open Science page, ‘Registered Reports are a form of empirical journal article in which methods and proposed analyses are pre-registered and peer-reviewed prior to research being conducted. High-quality protocols are then provisionally accepted for publication before data collection commences. This format of article is designed to reward best practice in adhering to the hypothetico-deductive model of the scientific method’ (https://cos.io/rr/). My editorial board, myself and the journal support the principles of fair and transparent research. It is our hope that by embracing the open science initiative, we move closer to that goal.

We look forward to receiving your submissions.
