Salvador Allende: A Pueblo Unido?

Salvador Allende stands as a symbol of those who gave up their lives for the cause of social justice. But in 1971, his and the Unidad Popular’s struggles to transform Chile remained largely unknown to foreign audiences. Saul Landau’s interview with the socialist president in the pages of NACLA helped change that.

Steven Volk

Steven Volk began to volunteer at NACLA in 1969. After a stay in Chile in 1972 and 1973, he returned to a staff position from 1973-1984, and then served on NACLA’s board from 1984-2016. He is Professor of History Emeritus at Oberlin College.
