In Colombia, “Without Life, there are No Jobs”

While Colombia’s mining industry celebrates right-wing president Iván Duque’s policy goals, Colombia’s workers and peasants are bracing for a new round of attacks on their rights, and a new wave of violence to enforce the new order.

Aviva Chomsky is Professor of History and Coordinator of Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies at Salem State University. Her recent books include The Cuba Reader: History, Culture, Politics (2nd edition), They Take Our Jobs! And 20 Other Myths about Immigration, Undocumented: How Immigration Became Illegal, and Linked Labor Histories: New England, Colombia, and the Making of a Global Working Class.
