Abstract
Based on data extracted from the 1999 October Household Survey (CitationSSA, 2000), this study has found the determinants of labour force participation of married women in South Africa to be: age, province, race, children, husband's wage and potential wage. The study supports the household labour supply model; it implies that government policies that focus on women's education and training, and those which are intended to promote gender and racial equality in all spheres of employment, should be encouraged in order to increase the labour force participation of married women in South Africa.
