Cross-Strait Relations: Policy Recommendations for the Next President

Pages 297-303 | Published online: 21 Oct 2008

Abstract

In the two analyses presented here the new president will discover a succinct and comprehensive rendition of recent meetings that took place among participants from the People's Republic of China (PRC, or the mainland), Taiwan, and the United States. Emphasizing that an incremental process based on mutual respect and extensive consultations among the parties may be the most effective way to approach the issue of stability in Cross-Strait relations, the analyses provide extensive and current information about those relations and the situation in Taiwan and offer a series of realistic policy recommendations for the new president to consider as his administration seeks to facilitate rapprochement between China and Taiwan.
