EBAT 2018

Especially in the second half of the nineteenth century, innovative progress in the area of recombinant DNA technologies within biotechnology has paved a path to the emergence of groundbreaking findings that affects many aspects of our lives. Many of the products today that have the highest unit price have been obtained through these innovations.

The market share of these high value-added products has led to a growing interest in biotechnology in developing countries. This interest has led to an increase in the number of biotechnology-based organizations in Turkey, specifically in the last 15 years. Organizations such as Biotechnology Institute of Turkey (TUSEB) and Institute of Biotechnology in Gebze Technical University have emerged along with an increase of funding towards biotechnology projects (i.e. TUBITAK funding).

Another effect can be clearly observed from the high density of Biotechnology themed events being held in Turkey in this time period. One of these events is the 1st International Eurasia Biochemical Approaches and Technologies Meeting (EBAT) which was held in Antalya, Turkey, from October 26–30, 2018.

More than 200 renowned researchers including from abroad participated in this meeting. Among the several submitted papers, three papers were selected to be published as “Highlights from EBAT 2018” in the Preparative Biochemistry and Biotechnology journal.

At this point, we would like to thank all contributors of EBAT 2018 and extend our special thanks to Prof. Dr. Anurag S. Rathore, Editor, Preparative Biochemistry and Biotechnology, and to his team for providing us with this opportunity.
