^2. I have put the term transculturation in quotes because it is outdated and reflects shortsightedness when examining topics of identity, nationhood, politics, and yes, culture. Cross-cultural is the preferred term in that it allows for a more current and nuanced investigation. I raise this point because it speaks to the book’s occasionally reductive perspective when it comes to the complex themes of contemporary culture and society.
