Robin Twite

Robin Twite, OBE, was born in 1932 in Rugby, UK. He was accepted by Balliol College, Oxford, and after two years in the army, he read modern history. After three years as a journalist in London, he joined the British Council where he spent 29 years, working in several countries, notably in Israel and India, Ethiopia and Portugal, as well as in the Council’s London headquarters. The Council’s role of creating cultural, educational and scientific links between Britain and countries abroad, gave him a variety of work experiences—managing a large aid project in India, helping to establish the Open University in Israel, and, at the end of his career, looking after the Council’s network of 120 libraries overseas, aid to British publishers, and information services. On his retirement, he moved with Sonia, his second wife, to Jerusalem, where he worked for nearly three decades on projects designed to promote cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians on environmental issues.
