Human Dimensions of Wildlife (HDW) is now in its 21st year of publication and has become widely considered as one of the flagship journals in the field of human dimensions of wildlife and fisheries. Currently, six issues are published per year and the journal receives hundreds of article submissions annually. Seven types of articles are considered: research articles, review articles, methodological articles, opinion pieces, research notes, findings abstracts, and book reviews.
Since its inception, HDW has been facilitated almost entirely by its Editors, originally Jerry Vaske and Michael Manfredo. At the beginning of 2013, Mark Needham replaced Michael Manfredo as Co-Editor. Over the last 21 years, the Editors have completed almost all tasks for the journal, including finding external referees, reviewing every article at multiple stages, issuing decision letters to authors, editing articles for final publication, working with guest editors on special issues, promoting the journal, and corresponding with the journal’s publisher (Taylor and Francis Group).
Given the continued success and growth of HDW, the current health of the journal, and its respect among colleagues around the world, it was time to move the journal to a slightly different structure. HDW, therefore, has moved to an Associate Editor structure (similar to most other leading journals) where there is now a team of this field’s leading and most respected experts who serve as Associate Editors. For each article, Associate Editors will be asked to find two external referees, serve as a third referee themselves, synthesize the reviews, and make a general recommendation to the Co-Editors who will make final decisions and edits, and continue completing all other tasks for the journal. The following 28 internationally renowned experts have graciously agreed to become Associate Editors for HDW. These new Associate Editors are welcomed and thanked for taking on this task to continue enhancing the scope, reputation, and growth of HDW:
Øystein Aas - Norwegian Institute for Nature Research, Norway
Robert Arlinghaus - Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany

The addition of this new team of Associate Editors replaces the former Editorial Advisory Board. Daniel Decker (Cornell University), Donald Field (University of Wisconsin), Wolfgang Haider (recently deceased, Simon Fraser University), and Thomas Heberlein (University of Wisconsin) are thanked for their longstanding contributions as members of this board. Robert Arlinghaus (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Maarten Jacobs (Wageningen University), and Stephen Sutton (Atlantic Salmon Federation) are former Editorial Advisory Board members who are transitioning to the new Associate Editor role. Lori Shelby is also thanked for her efforts and service as a former Associate Editor. Finally, Deborah Green (College of William and Mary) is thanked for serving as Book Review Editor for many years. Given that HDW has received few book review submissions in recent years, this position is being replaced by the Associate Editors who will now handle any book reviews that are submitted.
In addition to these changes in personnel, the publisher has moved HDW to a new “PrintLess” schedule where: (a) each of the six issues per volume year will now be published electronically at the journal’s website (www.tandfonline.com/uhdw) in January, March, May, July, September, and November; and (b) one hardcopy print edition containing all six of these issues will be published at the end of the volume year in December. Articles accepted for publication, but not yet assigned to an issue, will continue appearing under “latest articles” on the journal’s website. Finally, the publisher has changed the appearance and layout of articles in HDW. This new layout provides better on-screen readability; a cleaner and more contemporary font; clearer display of author names and affiliations, abstracts, and keywords; color headings in the online version for better online navigation; and enhanced author contact information. Taken together, these are exciting developments for HDW. The editorial personnel (e.g., new Associate Editors, former Editorial Advisory Board members, former Associate Editors, and former Book Review Editor), authors of submitted articles, readers, and others associated with HDW are thanked for continuing to make this journal a success and a leader in its field.
