Major types of Antarctic ice shores

Abstract

A classification of Antarctic ice shores distinguishes two morphologic types: rocky ice (grounded ice) and floating ice. In terms of the conditions of formation of these types of shores, the following genetic types are distinguished: abrasion, wave‐calved, thermal abrasion, ablation, floating, calved as well as unusual accretion shores and shores formed by old fast ice.
